C2E2

Yesterday was the last day of C2E2, in Chicago. It was so much fun!
The first day was a lot of walking around and meeting celebrities, but the second and third days I cosplayed! It was so much fun!
I’ve never done it before, but I definitely will again.

I stuck with what I like: Steampunk (obviously).

This was my day 2 outfit:

Day 3:

So here is the breakdown of the costumes from top to  bottom:

Goggles:
I made using old swim goggles. I just used a sharpie to make the edges black, replaced the rubber band with a brown shoe lace, and took bits of leather and wrapped it around the edges.

Chopsticks
(day 2): A gift, but you can get them basically anywhere, I’ve gotten several sets from world market. As long as they’re smooth and sturdy you can use them in your hair.

Choker
(day 2): I made it using a strap from an old tank top, and sewed on a button in the back, and the bezel pendant in front.

Necklaces:
Hand made by me. If you look through the archives, there are better pictures of all of the necklaces.

Red tank top
(day 2): hand-me-down, thermal tank top.

Blue Ruffle Tank Top
(day 3): I got this at target, a couple of years ago.

Corset:
I honestly cannot remember where I got this. I know it came from a store in the mall, right before Halloween. If I remember, or find out where I got it, I will let you know.

Belts:
Hand made, by me. The thick leather belt was made from a piece of leather, from a scrap leather bag, from Hobby Lobby. I attached the buckle using rivets. As long as you have a way to punch holes in leather, it’s pretty easy to make (I used a hammer and nail). The second belt was made out of man made leather, which I just sewed together, and put belt rings on one end.

Military Pouch: I purchased this, a long with a few others from an Army Navy Surplus store in Downtown Chicago. You can go to almost any Military Surplus Store to find something similar. I suggest going in person, rather than ordering online, because you can find some amazing deals.

Skirt: Hand made, by me. You can find photos from me making it HERE.

Leather Cuff Bracelet (day 1): Hand made by me. I also used leather scraps from Hobby Lobby for this project. I found a piece that was the right sized rectangle, and punched holes in the back (using a heavy duty hole puncher), and laced it using another piece of leather. The front was made using a gear charm, and spray paint.

Lace Cuffs: Hand made, by me. Using lace from Hobby Lobby, and little metal gears.

Leather Scrap Bracelets: Hand made, by me. Better pictures of one of them can be found HERE. They were incredibly easy to make. I just cut leather cord, all the same length, and wired the ends together, and made clasps. If you’re not up for making clasps, you can buy them.

Arm Warmers (day 3): I found at Sock Dreams. They are amazing. You should look at their website. The ones I had on were the Sorcerer Sleeves.

Leggings (day 2): Target, but again, you can get them anywhere.

Lacey Shorts (day 3): I got these at Gordman’s. But I’ve seen them so many places.

Socks: Sock Dreams.

Brown Leg Warmers (day 2): DSW.

White Leg Warmers (day 3): Gordman’s.

Combat Boots (day 2): The Army Navy Surplus store.

Thigh High Boots (day 3): Macy’s Clearance.

I think that’s everything! Let me know if you have any questions!

Playing with Leather

Here are a couple of fun new pieces I made!

The first is similar to one I have done in the past.
It’s leather scraps, bundled together to make a unique adorable bracelet.

The second is a cuff, made out of two colors of leather scraps, with an adorable Victorian looking clasp.

The last is my favorite! This was my first attempt at binding a book, and I turned it into a necklace, with a little glass vial.

New things!

So the first new item is a necklace, as you can see. I got a bunch of quill pen tips on clearance, and thought they would look nice on jewelry, so this is my first attempt. First of all, I sanded off the tip, to make it a little less dangerous, then wrapped some wire around it, made a loop in the back, to put the cord through, put a couple of washers on, made a coils out of wire for decoration, made clasps, and voila! It was incredibly easy, and it’s a little different, which I like.

These are a couple of fingerless lace gloves. They came out  a little puffier than expected, but they’re cute. It is just an elastic, satin ribbon  and  lace trim. Each one took about 3 minutes to make. The camera made the lace and ribbon look like two different colors, where in person they’re the same color.

Latest projects!

Here are a couple of fun things I made in the last couple of days.
The first is a choker necklace. Eventually I will model it on a human, so you can see what it looks like. This is just a piece of lace on a strap that came off of an old shirt. It already had a button hole, which was nice, so all I had to do was put the button on it, sew the lace, and hand sew the button.

These next pieces are lace fingerless “gloves”.
These were incredibly easy, because they already had the elastic sewn in. So all I had to do was sew the sides and hand stitch the gears onto the front.

This is a leather arm cuff. This did not end up how I was planning, but I kind of like how it turned out. I put holes in the ends to be able to lace it up, then I actually put a hole in the front, because I was going to do a series of rivets… but it didn’t work out how I was planning, so instead I put the gear on it. I used another gear as a stencil, and I did a little bit of spray painting.

This last one is just leather cord with a very simple macrame knot, and a button on the end as a clasp.

That’s all I have for you today. I’d love to hear what you think! Thanks for stopping by!

Bracelet

So I know that I just posted tonight, but I made this bracelet that I wanted to show you. It’s pretty sweet. I’m still going with pretty simple designs while I play around with different things. Eventually I plan to make my designs a little more intricate, but for now this is what I’m doing. Like the earrings, I made the chain, and I also made the clasp with the same wire.
